It's Legend: It has been said that the gem is actually the eye of a dragon that had a great love of, and a great skill with, magic. The Dragon was said to have been turned to stone by a evil wizard and within one of it's eye all of the Dragons magic was traped, the eye did not turn into stone, it instead changed into a gem.
